Oxfordshire Indian takeaway hit with poor hygiene score

Mahee Tandoori at Bridge Street in Abingdon was given the score following an assessment on Wednesday, March 6.

Vale of White Horse District Council’s Environmental Health team were left disappointed in what they found, noting that improvement was ‘necessary’.

Inspectors decided to give the establishment a lowly two-out-of-five hygiene rating as a result of their findings inside.

The report stated that Mahee Tandoori’s hygienic food handling required ‘improvement’ which refers to the preparation, cooking, re-heating, cooling and storage of food.

The cleanliness and condition of both the facilities and the building were then rated as ‘generally satisfactory’.

This includes having an appropriate layout, ventilation, hand washing facilities and pest control to enable good food hygiene.

Mahee Tandoori’s management of food safety was also given the same rating following the snap inspection by the environmental health team.

This regards having a system of checks in place to ensure the food sold or served is safe to eat and if there is evidence that staff know about food safety.

It also concerns whether or not the food safety officer has confidence that standards will be maintained in the future.

The Oxford Mail has approached Mahee Tandoori for comment following the inspection’s findings.
