Pupils help organise citizenship ceremony
*
A GROUP of pupils helped 32 people become fully-fledged UK citizens. And to make sure it was a really memorable day, the 13- and 14-year-olds from Wallingford designed and produced a commemorative mug to give to each person. It was the second time that students at Wallingford School had organised such a ceremony. Taking part were 19 students taking the GCSE Citizenship course two years early. One of them, Amber Stickland, said: "We did this with no adult help, arranging everything from the ceremony itself to the catering. "Children of our age rarely get the chance to organise something so important." Their guests included local MP Ed Vaizey and Ann Ducker, leader of South Oxfordshire District Council. Citizenship tutor Nerissa West said: "They did a wonderful job — the whole ceremony was fantastic. And the commemorative mugs were a great idea."
