A MOTORIST has admitted causing the death of a student.

Grant Embling, 20, died in a crash while riding his motorcycle in September at an accident blackspot on the A4130 in Didcot.

Yesterday, Paul Pettifer, 26, of Springfield Road, Wantage, admitted at Oxford Crown Court causing death by dangerous driving.

He was arrested shortly after his blue Honda Civic collided with Mr Embling's motorcycle.

Judge David Morton Jack bailed Pettifer to reappear for sentencing on August 17.

He was also handed an interim driving ban.

Thousands of people signed a petition calling for safety improvements on the A4130 after the crash.

Mr Embling was the fifth person to die on the stretch of road since 2003.

Following a safety campaign launched by his parents, Mike and Jan Embling, Oxfordshire County Council painted hatched markings on the road to discourage overtaking.

Mrs Embling spent a series of Saturdays at the Orchard Centre, Didcot, collecting 8,000 signatures calling for road improvements.

Her son had recently finished a course at Oxford and Cherwell Valley College, in Oxpens Road, Oxford, and was planning to go back-packing.

A collection at the funeral raised £1,000 for Woodlands Surgery in Didcot.
