Milton United have appointed Kevin Lloyd as their new manager, with player Matt Shelton as his assistant.

Previously a reserve team manager with Milton, Lloyd is a level two coach, having worked with Oxford United's Centre of Excellence and had previous management spells with Easington Sports, Abingdon Town and Wantage Town.

He's been an active member of the club's committee for the past 12 months.

Shelton, who joined the Sport Italia Hellenic League club from Wantage, will be gaining his first experience of management.

The duo succeed Roger Nichols, who resigned as caretaker boss at the end of the season, after taking over following the sacking of Gary Ackling in March.

The position of coach Matty Whitehead has yet to be resolved, although the club hope he will stay.

Milton chairman Barry Griffiths said: "We are lucky to have committed people with the right experience and the desire to return to the club to its core values.

"Our aim is to establish firm foundations and fully integrate the first team with the reserves and the youth side.

"There will be a natural progression path, based on ability for all players regrdless of age."

Abingdon Town are delighted to have avoided relegation from the Premier Division of the Sport Italia Hellenic League and have denied rumours that they intend to quit the league.

The Culham Road club finished in the bottom four, but have escaped the drop due to the demotioin of Lydney Town.

The Forest of Dean club, who finished in mid-table, had failed to improve their ground in time to retain their Premier Division place.

Abingdon chairman Tom Larman said: "We have come through a tough season and are absolutely delighted to learn that we will remain in the Premier Division for next season.

"The last match of the season against Almondsbury when we denied them the championship, showed just what the team is capable of, and we look forward to more performances like that next season.

"Despite struggling at times this season, there is absolutely no truth in any rumours that the club were thinking of leaving the Hellenic League."
