Didcot Town manager Stuart Peace admitted it "was too painful to think about football," following his side's elimination from the British Gas Business Southern League promotion play-offs.

o The Railwaymen, who had looked favourites to go up from Division 1 South & West for much of the season, lost 5-4 to Oxford City in a penalty shoot-out in their play-off semi-final at Loop Meadow Stadium last week.

Didcot fought back twice to draw 2-2 after extra time, but it was City who went through to Saturday's play-off final against Uxbridge, which they won 1-0 to gain promotion to the Premier Division.

Peace said: "It's always difficult when you lose on penalties.

" I thought that overall we were better side. Their keeper (Steve Smith) made three outstanding saves. "I'm disappointed. We had the worst possible start, but we showed great determination to come back twice. "When we got them back to 1-1, I thought we were going to win comfortably, we had them on the back foot.

"I don't usually like to single out players for praise, but I thought Jack King was excellent. He showed what he could do.

"I don't want to think about football at the moment - it's too painful.

"I thought my lads gave their all and that City were hanging on at the end."
