ATHLETICS: Evans record lifts Radley to second
Radley finished a creditable second as they kicked off their Southern League Division 3 West campaign at Basingstoke.
In a highly-competitive meeting, Radley finished just eight points behind the host club.
Arran Evans produced a cracking run to set a new club record in the 3,000m steeplechase, crossing the line in 13.18.9.
Steve Wren threw a personal best of 35.51m to win the B string javelin, and then set a club record of 2.90m to finish second in the A string pole vault.
In the B string pole vault, young James Godfrey achieved an under 17 club record, clearing 2.20m.
Ben Owen continued where he left off last season by posting an A string sprint double.
He clocked 11.4secs to win the 100m then followed this up by recording 22.9secs in the 200m.
There was a further club record as Alistair Duncan clocked 55.6 secs to finish second in the A string 400m.
Over the longest distance, the 5,000m, Paul Jegou won in 16.53.1

Abingdon Amblers made a strong start to their Southern League Division 3 West campaign as they finished second at Woking.
They were beaten only by a strong Plymouth team, and for a side fielding a number of newcomers, there were some impressive performances.
James Wright stole the show for Amblers he leapt 12.60m to win the tripe jump.
