Great concern
I am writing to you with great concern regarding the future of the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre, in Headington, Oxford. I have recently returned from the centre, having undergone a successful partial knee replacement and am, therefore, well placed to appreciate the quality of the medical team and facilities at the Nuffield. They provide a vital and, as I understand, unique service to the large number of people, such as myself, who require specialised orthopaedic procedures.
I am, therefore, very troubled to learn that the Strategic Health Authority is proposing to absorb the Nuffield into a larger NHS Trust and that the funding for its services are at risk. To lose these brand new facilities at a time when the need for orthopaedic procedures is only set to increase is surely madness.
I am sure that my concern would be shared by the local community and the many others that benefit from the Nuffield's medical care.
I would, therefore, request that the Department of Health and the Strategic Health Authority review their decisions in order to ensure a funded and independent future for the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre.
