I was not surprised by John Flood's letter last week attempting a defence of the indefensible. His opposition to town council involvement in Willowbrook is obviously being played out and until actually resolved its future does hang in the balance.

In relation to the front page story of last week's edition of the Didcot Herald, Town clock bid ticking again, I found Les McDonagh's comment 'Vandalism is everywhere, we just have to put up with it' most disconcerting and his negative attitude that this is something Didcot has to live with is pathetic to say the least.

A couple of weeks ago there was a small paragraph about unattended police surgeries at some named villages, one of which was ours - Aston Tirrold.

Our village has been disfigured recently by a rash of bilious yellow signs on the electricity supply poles stating 'Danger of Death: Keep Off'. Without knowing the death rate of those capable of climbing the 30-ft poles, it's difficult to judge their value, but I suspect it's nil.

As a Cholsey resident, I am extremely disappointed that Cholsey Parish Council has seen fit to reject the offer of theatre facilities at the Fairmile site in order to pursue their own expensive project.

With regard to the story, 'Dream' clock snub upsets Rotary Club, (Didcot Herald, April 17), I was told, as indeed your report also says, that the planners were concerned about vandalism.
