USA to blame' for attack

The brother of New York terror attack victim Christopher Newton-Carter has questioned whether bombing Afghanistan is the right response to the September 11 atrocities.

Mark Newton-Carter, 50, who admits hope has all but faded that his brother will be found alive, said: "I really don't think they should be bombing at all.

"Personally I would have thought it would have been better to send in the special forces to find him [Osama Bin Laden].

"I do think America is probably pretty much to blame for what happened anyway and all they are really doing now is antagonising the situation," said Mark.

He has been staying at their mother Linda's home in Parson Street, Hendon.

"But if it has to be done the way they are doing it, then they are doing it the right way. It is good that they held off until they were reasonably well-organised and it is good the coalition is in place."

Christopher, who grew up in Greyhound Hill, spoke to his brother on the phone moments before the second plane ploughed into the south tower of the World Trade Centre around 30 floors below the office where he worked. He has not been seen since.

"Our mother says that if they could at least find his body then we would have something tangible to deal with but it is not knowing that is the worst thing," added Mark.

Around 70 people paid tribute to Christopher's life during an emotional memorial service, which took place at Our Lady of Dolours Roman Catholic Church in Egerton Gardens, Hendon, last Friday.
