King Alfred stands whole again

Wantage's iconic statue of King Alfred has been repaired, after six months of standing in Market Place without an arm.

Vandals chopped off the right hand and axe of the statue on New Year's Eve, abandoning it in pieces at the base of the statue.

Work cost £1,500 and was completed in two days last month. A 24-year-old man cautioned for the vandalism on New Year's Eve will pay for the repairs.

The attack was condemned by residents and Wantage mayor Lorraine Todd, who offered a reward of £300 of her own money to the town council's £200 for information leading to a conviction.

Isn' there a handy CCTV camera (which shows a decent quality picture) thet can be trained on the statue and surrounding area to stop any more of this armless tomfoolery?

I can vouch for Julia's happiness, she wasn't the same person for the 6 months Alfie was armless.
